CSI MEDBLOGS: Rosacea... The Case for Making Up Yushchenko's Face

ROSACEA? COME ON!!

I am receiving negative feedback on my Rosacea hypothesis as regards Viktor Yushenko's facial voyage from human to crocodile. The Doctor in Residence at The Medical Madhouse is extremely skeptical:

Rosacia? what? not with that kind of look

And others have scoffed similarly. But let me walk you through the Hollywood makeup department in my forensics lab (it IS Friday) ...

As you can see, Rosacea can pretty much cover the WHOLE face, and it is quite lumpy-bumpy, what with the PUSTULES and PAPULES and FIBROUS PROLIFERATIONS....

But how does Vikor get from THAT picture of Rosacea to this:

Easy........after all, every politician gets his face fixed right before he goes up to the podium. His red lumps and bumps look so FREAKISHLY inhuman because they had to pile on so much of this:

It's make-up, guys!

Rosacea takes time to develop into the sad cases pictured. I don't think it's plausible that it could get to such an extreme in a few days.
Dioxin looks right.

No, rosacea can be explosive and can be triggered by a single drink.

Why would Dioxin look good to you? And why the hell would ANYONE try to kill ANYONE with Dioxin (easily traceable, hard to hide)?

How about Hexachloromethapudnospin -- does that look good?

I agree about the makeup. I was thinking about that too, but I wasn't sure whether rosacea could be virulent enought to still look like that under the concealer. Whatever's wrong with the man, we're not seeing it as his doctors have seen it.

Well now come on, Mr. Yushchenko would be a total idiot to falsify his health condition. Whatever doctor stated that it is a good makeup job shouln't call himself a doctor. Look in the news. Mr. Yushchenko has been to an Austrian clinic, he almost died - for God's sake this is the 21st century. Please don't say things to discredit your website.

I would respectfuly ask that you read through my posts more carefully.

I never accuse Yushchenko of falsifying his health condition. He may truly believe that he has been poisoned -- and maybe he has! I am NOT saying there is NO chance that he was poisoned, just as I wouldn't tell you there is NO chance a 40-1 shot is going to win a horse race. What I WOULD tell you and him is that if you want to consistently pick winners, you have to play the odds.

I worked backwards FROM the reports of his illness TO his face. People (including Yushchenko) who START with the disfigurement of the face and try to go BACKWARDS to find out a reason, have a higher likelihood of getting lost and choosing wildly inaccurate and improbable causes.

I never said he had a GOOD makeup job. I was responding to the obvious contradiction in the color of his face in photographs (tan to brown and pasty) with my proposal that he has rosacea, which is usually reddish in tinge.

I agree, this is the 21st century. Are people still being murdered by poisoning? THAT, to me, seems like the anachronism in this whole story.

Anna Politovskaya, Russian journalist, details her personal experience with being poisoned in her work, Putin, Poison, and My Struggle for Freedom. She has a new book out: Russia's Putin, which details this favorite (mostly undetected) KGB tactic. One of the few cases in which the victim lived long enough to establish how he was poisoned is that of the Bulgarian Georgi Markov, killed in London by a ricin-tipped umbrella, courtesy of the KGB. (I'm not making this up.)Poisoning done this way usually is called "heart attack" and, of course, strictly-speaking, that's not really incorrect. A person's heart does stop when he dies. And if I were a coronor in Russia examining a chubby fellow with a vodka-for-breakfast habit and a history of annoying Vladimir Putin, I bet I'd call it "heart attack" too. (Speaking of ricin, can we include the Tokyo subway victims in the list of the recently-poisoned dead? And how about those Kurds? Then there's Jonestown...I see no reason to suppose that the same kind of psychopath who would murder hundreds of innocents would cavil at the occasional single killing.)Obviously, I've got no base-rate data available on rosacea versus poison in Russian politicians. But so far, it seems as likely that a member of the political opposition may end up dying an "unexpected death" (Andropov?), than living to a ripe old age.

I agree with you and I said so in a previous post about this case (regarding who, nowadays uses poison:

"In fact, nowadays, it is strictly the domain of amateurs, terrorists, psychopaths, and the frontal lobes of fiction writers."

And, if you read my response to the previous commenter, I say that sure, he COULD be the victim of a poisoning, but if he were rushed into the emergency room and you had to make a decision as to what disease you should treat (you have minutes to decide and it could cost his life), would it be poisoning? I'm going to write a post about this today, and I'm going to quote some of these letters, so look for it later.

The change in this man's face is so drastic that I am inclined to wonder if it is in fact the same man. Any chance that this face disfigurement story is a cover for something worse?

WHAT IF THE REAL YUSHCHENKO IS TOO ILL/DEAD ETC. TO CAMPAIGN?
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE WEST'S PLANS TO ESTABLISH THEIR MAN IN THE UKRAINE?
SO WHY NOT BRING IN A NEW CANDIDATE?
BUT IT'S TOO LATE TO START THE CAMPAIGN ALL OVER AGAIN FROM SCRATCH AND GET THE PEOPLE ACQUAINTED WITH A TOTALLY NEW GUY.

Hey Guys! I live in Ukraine... take my word for it... This man has never been poisoned. Our "KGB" is not that ignorant to make a circus performance out of a "poisoning". We are not latin america... If out guys want to kill someone they do it quite proffesionally. Many people here are sick and tired of Yushch & Co's fairy tales... It is nonsense that only his hypnotised supporters can buy... Thanx for being non-partisan... It is so rare nowadays!
