CSI MEDBLOGS: THE FRENCH MEDICS OWE THE WORLD AN EXPLANATION

Yasser Arafat was pronounced dead today, 11/11 and the terminal event was said to be a brain hemorrhage two days ago, 11/9.

However, the Palestinian leader has been "in a coma" since last Wednesday  11/3. This "coma" came on abruptly, just when it seemed that the patient was doing better -- sitting up, watching the elections, writing congratulatory notes...

If anyone cares, none of this makes sense, and certainly, the cause of Y.A.'s death was not a bleed into his brain while he was lying unconscious and immobile under 24 hour medical supervision. People lying in their hospital beds for two weeks don't just suddenly hemorrhage into their brains.

Likewise, patients who are sitting up, talking, watching TV, and writing, don't suddenly decompensate straight into irreversible death-watch states of unconsciousness without some proximal event!

Now, the French Medics certainly are not obligated to tell us about Arafat's underlying disease (AIDS, alcoholism, mushroom poisoning, pining for his wife...whatever), but they damn well owe an explanation as to why Y.A. suddenly decompensated last week -- and a brain hemorrhage two days ago doesn't apply retrograde, thank you.

Refusing to give any explanation of events that occurred on their watch means that these medics are hiding something or covering up. They did (or did not do)  something to adversely affect Y.A.'s condition; and, I'd like to tell everyone: stay away from that hospital -- and any other hospital in France if you can -- lest you become an unfortunate corpse-in-training, ever sinking into inexplicable, deepening comas, neither dead nor alive, until some fortunate, entirely unlikely terminal event puts an end to your life.

The French just wash their hands and walk away.

Although I've had fun reading your theories on the death of Yasser Arafat I believe you are making a truly huge jump in rational. You make the assumption that the french were always truthful to the media about the findings observed on CT and other blood tests.
We may never know what happened or as I suspect it will only be a short while until we do (somebody will talk for enough money), however, jumping to the conclusion that the doctors killed a man who was obviously already half dead when he arrived is pure paranoia. In addition, patients often suddenly do better before they crash.
To Villify these physicians and the entire hospital, nay, the entire hospital system of France based on these assumptions is outrageous and uncalled for.

I made no assumptions. I dealt with the information provided. If the French want to provide more or better information then I'll construct my rationales from those data. There is no huge jump in me taking what THEY say and providing my 2 PhD's worth of input on what it likely means.

You, on the other hand, are making a galactic leap in saying that Arafat was "obviously" half dead when he got to France. According to whom was he half dead, and why? Is looking thin and frail "half dead?" I'll tell you what, I'll give you the flu for 2 weeks or acute hepatitis for a month and see what YOU look like. Not much different.

As for paranoia -- Nothing I've said warrants that accusation. I'm not worried that anyone is out to get ME -- I'm worried about people like YOU winding up in hospitals where no one will ever know how you went from sitting up and taking names one day to sleeping with poisson the next.

The French hospital and doctors have LIED to the entire world for two weeks. They've lied about what Arafat had, how they treated him and how he died. How can you defend them? We would NOT tolerate that in the U.S. Not for a second. We know how many ENEMAS Bill Clinton got at Columbia before his bypass surgery...we don't even know if they took Arafat's temperature.

Nay, this CALLS for villification; nay, it calls for a boycott of Frech health care; and nay, I say, if they want to show me as a fool, let them release the records. I'll eat french crow if I'm wrong.

Here's a suggestion: Each time someone starts talking about how "great" Arafat was, or says he died of "unknown"/"mysterious" causes, immediately start singing and disco-dancing:

"Y-M-C-A!"

Or sing "MACHO, MACHO MAN". Not that there's anything wrong with THAT. Honestly.
